Working in partnership with the UW Professional & Continuing Education (“PCE”), Heartland provides ongoing management of the Commercial Real Estate Certificate program. Each year, members of the commercial real estate industry with anywhere from 3 to 30 years of experience coming from a wide range of disciplines (including architecture, planning, finance, marketing, development, property management, law, investment and all related disciplines) participate in the program to extend their own professional education, become more multidisciplinary, expand their network with other professionals, and access a very broad faculty of local industry leaders.
Throughout the three-course program, students explore commercial real estate as an interdisciplinary field. The classes, all taught by experts in their respective fields, delve into various aspects of Commercial Real Estate such as finance, development, property management and marketing. The students are able to gain valuable real-world insight into best practices and industry trends while applying everything they learn in the classroom as they create a development proposal for an actual Seattle-area site.
Each year, Heartland coordinates various tasks for the program, including working with the PCE to schedule informational sessions for prospective students, scheduling, organizing and facilitating the application review and selection process, acting as a liaison between the PCE and the individual instructors, and working with outside vendors to secure locations for various events such as the development project presentation nights and other networking and social events.
