Principal & Senior Managing Director
Jim is a Principal and the Senior Managing Director of Heartland LLC, as well as one of its founders. He has extensive experience in evaluating, negotiating, and structuring complex real estate projects, ventures and transactions, which gives him a uniquely broad perspective as he works with clients and partners to design and implement strategies for projects, portfolios, real estate operating, development and investment platforms across the country and internationally.
Prior to Heartland, Jim was a real estate, tax, and securities attorney in both California and Washington. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, California, and a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Jim is heavily involved with real estate education at the University of Washington, and currently serves on the Advisory Board and the Executive Committee of the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies, and on the Advisory Committee for the Commercial Real Estate Certificate Program, a course for which he was Lead Instructor for over 25 years. Jim also serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, and the Board of Forterra Enterprises, Inc.
